For him, people who are wildly creative and take risks in one domain compensate by being extra cautious in another domain (“drive carefully on your way to the casino”). The same might apply for heroic responsibility: continue working as a cog in the system on Mondays, write well-written thought-provoking posts on LessWrong (where the median person wants to take over the world) on Sundays.
