It is not necessary to simulate all the way through a human brain in order to extract the information in it—there are lossless abstractions that can be discovered which will greatly speed up insights from brains. humans have not yet found them but particularly strong AIs could either get very close to them or could actually find them. In that sense I don’t think the high thermal cost suffering simulation possibility is likely. however it does seem quite plausible to me that if we die we get vacuumed up first and used for parts.
