The bimodal distribution (vs. normal for math) was the claimed observation, but I don’t know if there’s solid statistical evidence for it existing beyond the specific classes they gave examples for or if its just anecdote. At any rate, if it’s real, no-one knows why it exists. Anecdotally, when I did my first programming class there was a guy who was much better at math than me but seemed to have a harder time grasping the concept of programming than I did.
