The frustrating thing about these threads is that I probably have a bunch of useful contributions stashed somewhere in my brain that simply aren’t coming to mind right now.
PSA: Your problems are basically solvable if you step outside of the comfortable certainty of only acting on objective scientific research. Instead throw as much information as you can regarding the problem at yourself, perhaps relying on unsupported, vague, or even several contradictory models of reality in order to plot your course. There are hundreds of self-help books written on any given problem—read five of them and experiment, (while of course not forgetting to use your rationality skills at the end of the day) and you’ll probably get somewhere.
PSA: If you are depressed, read Feeling Good by David Burns.
PSA: If you are very akratic, it might be because your self-worth is overly tied to your productivity. From my own experiences and what I’ve read, this seems to be the killer.
PSA: Making eye contact with people is really important when it comes to getting them to like and respect you. The stronger the eye contact the better, unless you are a man talking to another man, in which case you should still make fairly strong eye contact, but overdoing it can be harmful.
PSA: If you want to download a zip of an album when it leaks, search for it on Twitter, not Google. (Disclaimer: I have only tried this for hip-hop albums.)

And here’s a LessWrong post with five more that are really useful.
(Also, what’s with the slashes in the acronym?)
Searching blogs or forums with Google also works pretty well for me.
