I think disagreement about herd immunity comes down to whether we’re talking about “herd immunity despite everyone going back to clubbing and indoor dining etc. as if it were 2019” vs “herd immunity while cautious people continue to take COVID-19-specific precautions”. I think the population heterogeneity is very high under current conditions, where lots of people are all but entirely isolated, and that the population heterogeneity is quite a bit lower under normal circumstances, where more isolated people sometimes go drink tea with their highly social neighbors and family members etc. When people hear the words “herd immunity” I think they’re usually imagining that we all get to go back to 2019 behavior, but I don’t think you’re using the term that way. You can correct me if I’m wrong.
