Those words seem plausible. If they were actually dead though, I’d expect that to be something that they’d announce, for reasons you mention, so I don’t think they’re actually dead.
Maybe they’re struggling and considering shutting down but taking a long time to decide because it requires a lot of thought and/or because it is hard to pull the trigger.
