Finding LessWrongers on LinkedIn
We’ve had a few initiatives recently to connect LessWrongers for business networking.
Here is another one: A LW group at LinkedIn. Think of it not as a discussion group or online community, but as a “tag” on your LinkedIn profile, to help other LWers find you.
(I’ve turned off the discussion functionality on the LI group, since the Google Group or LessWrong.com are better for that purpose.)

Another idea: Invite other LessWrongers to connect on LinkedIn, including not only those on the LW LI group, but any you know from the online community. It’s a good way to get them in your Rolodex.* (You may have to dig up their email first. Then, add them at the LI menu Connections->Add Connections->Any Email->Add by individual Email.)
For reference, here are recent posts on connecting between LWers:
A Google Group for networking
A survey, and reports about LessWrong as social catalyst.
I’m interested in seeing which of these initiatives actually helps people, so please let us know.
Another use of your LinkedIn Profile is to show your support for (or help advertise) nonprofits and charities you support. For example, I have MIRI, AMF, and others listed in the “Organizations I Support” section.
Take a look at my profile for an example (and send me an invitation while you’re at it. You never know when someone might know someone you want to get in contact with.)
Update: As of May 15, 2014 at 15:00 UTC (a little over 2 days from this post) there are 53 members.
Great idea—I have followed the groups and MIRI on LinkedIn, and already follow several other AI related groups. It is worth looking at Google+ as well—I have found this to have a higher quality of discussions than LinkedIn / Facebook
Sure, but we already have lesswrong.com and the LW business networking Google Group for discussions. Do we need yet another forum for discussion?
I joined the group in good faith, even though I’m not 100% convinced of the usefulness of having yet another LW online community (and apparently not using it?). Maybe it could be dedicated to the occasional work topic that pops up here sometimes, since it’s often not an issue directly related to rationality. Anyways, I will be glad to give whatever work-related-Linkedin-mediated help I can to any Lesswronger, feel free to pm me here to ask me for my name if you like.
I quite agree, which is why I stated that the LW/LI group is not meant as a community. See above: “Think of it not as a discussion group …, but as a ‘tag’ on your LinkedIn profile.”
