Presumably applicable where the sucker would have had his money taken anyway by a less scrupulous party than the subject of the agent who receives the recommendation to take suckers’ money. Or, where the agent taking recommended to take suckers’ money is better at maximising individual welfare with that money than a competitor, depending on your ethics.
Seems like your paragraph is shying away from the spirit of the quote.
Its a fail to let the sucker keep his money because its passing up on an opportunity. Like walking by a hundred laying on the sidewalk.
Not because of the stuff you say. Selfishness isn’t some kind of weird judo altruism, where you are doing the world a favor by maximizing the resources in the hands of non fools. Its not like you are gonna take the cash and bring it to someone smarter than you.
