Looking at Viliam’s comment, I can’t answer for the author, but I interpret the argument to mean that, yes, alignment in general is essentially illusory/unobtainable. It’s effectively obvious just by considering Godel’s “Incompleteness/Completeness” and Wolfram’s “Computational Irreducibility”—that is, not much math is needed, really, as I see it, but the math presented here seems consistent enough to me to be supportive of the overall point.
