The word “FOOM” is suggestive of a rapid, explosive increase—yet here it is apparently defined as follows:
“FOOM” means way the hell smarter than anything else around, capable of delivering in short time periods technological advancements that would take humans decades [...]
The idea of a very intelligent and capable creature arising seems to be compatible with a slow, controlled ascent that takes centuries. That seems to be a potential source of confusion.
If I defined a “WHOOSH” to be something that led to a bucket full of water—and it was then observed that a slowly dripping tap could produce the same effect—surely it would be time to rethink the terminology—or what it refers to.
