I’m not convinced the gap between tool and agent is all that large, and the last couple of years have made me think this more, not less. Finding ways to use LLMs as agents is something I see people doing everywhere, constantly. They’re still limited agents because they have limited capabilities, but the idea of creating tools and somehow ensuring there’s an uncrossable gulf to agency that no company/nation/user will bridge is, or should be, really hard to take seriously.

My point exactly. That’s why saying “AGI” and having people think you mean maybe a tool AI is a mistake.
