I am no sure whether the thesis argues for or against maxipok. Maxipok seems to me like an eminently sensible approach, but, just like any other, is probably flawed when taken to extremes. My guess is that “we should continue to use our inconsistent principles, but we should use them tastefully” means the ability to detect and avoid these extremes, regardless of the specific optimization goal.
