Are we sure that at the current level of development, rationality even does positively impact life? Besides a few huge anecdotal gains, where are the statistics?
I think the LW approach to rationality is currently missing a huge piece of the chain that should connect epistemology to real-world effectiveness.
These discussions of how rationality should make you more awesome are reminiscent of discussions about how jesus should make your life better. Keyword should. Don’t try to argue that rationality should make your life better until we figure it out to the point where we have evidence that it does. Outside view is that rationality is just another weird belief system claiming huge theoretical gains with no evidence.
I won’t pretend that rationality makes me more awesome until people are asking me why I’m so awesome.
Until then, let’s capture the people who might be interested and develop the art.
