What it doesn’t explain is our apparent reliance on this process, such that when the demands made on us by the economy decline, our society doesn’t revert to more home production; instead, we anxiously seek out employment, and hope the state will stimulate additional demand.
My (naive) assumption is that people are both much more productive when employed (vs. creating value in a closed loop), plus simply used to it.
