As far as candidates for making AI other than the Singularity Institute, is there any more likely than Google? Surely they want to make one.
They have a lot of really smart AI researchers working on hard problems within the world’s largest dataset, and who knows what can happen when you combine that with 20% time. Does Google controlling the AI scare you?
The US military or any government making the AI seems a recipe for certain destruction, but I’m not so sure about Google.
Thanks for the link… also just googled my way to Peter Norvig speaking at the Singularity Summit saying they aren’t anywhere close to AGI and aren’t trying. http://news.cnet.com/8301-10784_3-9774501-7.html
So I think it depends on 20% time for now which isn’t exactly conducive to solving the hard problem, not to mention 20% time at Google isn’t what it used to be.
