Really nice story, is the Redaction Machine a metaphor for sleep? I’ve often seen people argue that the person who went to bed isn’t the one who wakes the next day. So I just read your whole story as a Carpe Diem injunction.
Thanks for reading. It wasn’t intended as a sleep metaphor, although I see the point you are making. Its sort of backwards, with sleep the world (we assume) keeps moving continuously but the persons continuity sort of stops for a while. With redaction, if you find yourself suddenly in the future then your experience is continuous, but the world jumps forwards discontinuously.
