I believe this exemplifies a major weakness of this article and I’d actually like to hear a better analogy since I’m somewhat skeptical about a populist take down of a poorly defined subculture; one which I presume varies greatly from the authors’ tribe(s). More vexing, but also harder to describe, is it’s vaguely moralistic tone, but perhaps that’s just the absence of evidence talking.
(Would like to be shown to be missing the point. I hope I’m not being trollish.)
[Edit:] That said, I think that regular old contrarianism is a major issue reducing quality of life in our highly connected culture, but I think that’s more universal, “those trolls” are most of us at one time or another. (Or maybe it’s just me ;-)
