I do think it is reasonable to request a rephrase but I also would argue that it’s actually objectively true that we must be very clear, and the frustration with the claim is understandable; saying it as a command statement might be slightly wrong decision theory, but it’s only a little bit wrong. the commentary over at the effective altruism forum gets into the meat of the pros and cons of responding to this situation in various ways.
I would even say this is an example of a failed test case of attempting to take large amounts of control in order to make the world better, and is a nice example of why pivotal acts are almost inherently unsafe and should not occur.
