Wow, I hate the “no encrypted messages” idea so much. So so much. I wonder if this will actually be enforced for travelers?
I’m in a weird place of being very in favor of what I consider to be appropriate government surveillance, and also strongly in favor of privacy.
My rule of thumb for government surveillance is: would it be weird if a cop were there in person recording the events with a body cam?
Subway platform? Normal, please do surveil and enforce.
My bedroom? GTFO.
The highway? Yes please. Traffic cams everywhere, impound vehicles of anyone caught doing reckless driving.
My private text messages? No way, give me privacy.
Industrial scale data center usage? Please surveil, that’s industry not private activity.
