Thank you very much for the excellent analysis here; I’m not sure if this was an intended result, but after reading I’ve updated towards being more sympathetic towards people who believe what I perceive to be “baseless” conspiracy theories. All that needs to happen is for your trust to be even slightly misplaced (which is easy to do when emotions, family, and politics are involved), and BAM, suddenly that “insane worldview” sounds totally plausible… I didn’t really understand before reading this just how terrifyingly easy that slope can be.
