I just made my initial donation, with the intention of donating more over time.
The last year of my life was the hardest I’ve ever been through. In the spring, with a new job and a week’s notice—I moved across the country to Berkeley with only my suitcase. I was at my rope’s end for keeping it all together, and Lighthaven was there to catch me. I rented a basement room and was able to stay for a month or so until I could figure out a permanent place to live.
It’s hard to write how much it meant to me. The logistics of finding a place to sleep was great of course, but more than that, when everything had fallen apart, every friendly face and hello, every coworking session, every late night fireside discussion showed me that I wasn’t by myself.
I think this is what Lighthaven means to many people—a place where we can go and see that we’re not alone.
