Good Ventures will not accept future Open Philanthropy recommendations to fund us and Open Phil generally seems to be avoiding funding anything that might have unacceptable reputational costs for Dustin Moskovitz.
Is anyone in Moskovitz’ social circle willing to teach him state-of-the-art practices on making anonymous donations?
Either the “Monero + tails + shred PC” route or the “plainclothes man leaves a cash envelope on your doorstep and is extradited” route.
I think “unacceptable reputational costs” here basically means the conjunction of “Dustin doesn’t like the work” and “incurs reputational costs for Dustin”. Because of the first conjunct, I don’t think this suggestion would help Lightcone, sadly.
You seem uncertain as to which of the two reasons is the real reason. Floating the idea of anonymous donation to Moskowitz will make it a bit clearer what the real reason is.
$1M is not a big amount for a billionaire to maintain privacy about, if he cared about the privacy a lot.

I don’t feel particularly uncertain. This EA Forum comment and its parents inform my view quite a bit.
