If I read Chapter 1 correctly, the centaurs seem to think Harry will bring about the end of the world somehow. So wouldn’t the centaurs at some point have told Hagrid this and possibly asked him to do something about it?
Because he’s also the character least likely to kill an innocent child because of some prophecy? Does Hagrid seem like that much of a consequentialist to you?

Well, I don’t think Harry is that much of an innocent child anymore. A better argument would be that Hagrid is sympathetic towards monsters. :P
