I don’t think that there’s a single major newspaper that doesn’t contain at least one misleading article on most days. If a few misleading articles would rule out a source than you just couldn’t use newspapers as sources.
Here the question isn’t just whether Quillette has lower standards than the NYT but whether it has lower standards than an outlet like the Huffington Post. The NYT is commonly seen as “the paper of record” because they invest more effort into fact-checking than an outlet like the Huffington post.
