I don’t like this identification between “reason” and “self-awareness.” You have to be aware of yourself to reason about yourself, but it’s just the first step. (And, in the other direction, you could reason about yourself from false premises, because you lack self-awareness.) Not that you make much of the identification; I think the only place you can’t simply substitute “self-awareness” for “reason” is “can’t reason zerself into feeling any differently.”
