I don’t really get this comment, and it seems inappropriate to me. You say that you’re asking for personal info in light of the CEO having previously had relationships with other staff, but people in companies have relationships all the time that don’t impair their judgment (e.g. Paul Graham + Jessica Livingstone), so I don’t know what precisely you’re getting at. I also am reading into your comment an implied expectation (?) that one should be allowed to demand such info from people publicly, which seems like a bad norm to me.
