I haven’t followed the covid discourse that’d indicate whether this post’s ideas turned out to make sense. But, I really appreciated how this post went about investigating its model, and explored the IF-THEN ramifications of that investigation.
I like how it broke down “how does one take this hypothesis seriously?”, i.e:
There are things we could do to get better information.
There are things individuals or small groups can do to improve their situation.
There are things society as a whole could try to do that don’t have big downsides.
We could take bold action, potentially including variolation.
I like how it highlighted a really key failure of “man, we really should be doing better science and gathering more data here”, as well as discussing how this hypothesis might have some pretty counterintuitive implications (i.e. maybe old people should be making themselves more exposed), while being sensible about what sort of steps would make sense for actually taking that sort of bold action.
I’d appreciate a more in-depth review by someone can review both our current state of the knowledge about the initial-viral-load hypothesis, as well as some review of whether all the logical inferences here made sense at the time.
