LWers living in Boulder/Denver area: any interest in an AI-philosophy reading group?
I’d like to put together an AI-philosophy reading group. Ideally we would dig right in to the technical and philosophical topics, not glossing over the details (meaning we might read technical reports, textbook chapters, theses, etc.), and meeting as often as convenient. It’d be best to keep the group as small as possible, and I’m willing to take a leadership role in organizing and presenting (though by no means do I insist on being the main voice).
Potential discussion topics: machine ethics, theory of superintelligence, friendliness in artificial agents, philosophy of logic, really anything related to the building of a mind.
I’d be interested in participating in this, though would prefer a video conference meetup, to a face to face one.
The topic is likely to be of wide interest beyond Colorado, and that format would allow for wider participation.
I’m game. These are some of my favorite topics. I do computational cognitive neuroscience, and my principal concern with it is how it can/will be used to build minds.
Head over to meetup.com and search for AI and Existential Risk, then join the group. We just had our inaugural meeting.
I couldn’t find this meetup group. Does it still exist?
Actually, I folded it into another group called the Boulder Future Salon, which doesn’t deal exclusively with x-risk but which has other advantages going for it, like a pre-existing membership.
