Hm. I am in favor of high standards of discourse but I am remarkably resistant to Duncan imposing his high standards of discourse because he has remarkably different social/discourse intuitions from me.
Also worried about selective/biased policing and missing out on important points because the person making the point had trouble phrasing it well. (That’s sometimes the right tradeoff, but not always. Based on the examples in the post I don’t like where Duncan draws the line.)
I’m curious if you predict that I would endorse your description/summary of where I draw the line (i.e. whether you predict that you can pass my ITT).
I’m also curious for your cruxes, and/or your description of how you would recommend the example comments be moderated (including not at all if that’s your view).
(It seems useful to simply make the assertion, especially since it provides a flag for other people to vote on, giving a rough sense of how popular your stance is. But I think it would be even more useful if it led toward a reciprocal sharing of your model.)
Apologies for the lack of response here; a good and full response would take a fair bit of time and energy and I’m rather short on both. I’m not sure if I’ll get around to responding at all, though I will if I can. I understand that what I’ve written so far is vague and arguably hostile which is not a great combination, I just think it’s probably better than not saying the thing at all.
In the meantime, I would invite people who upvoted my above comments and have more spoons than me to answer Duncan’s questions in my place.
