Nope, not yet. I have 30 years to figure out if I want to continue with cryo or if some newer technology is more worth my money.
I don’t know the answer to either question. I really just picked Alcor since at the time their Website looked far more professional than the alternative (although that has changed since). You can shoot the Alcor folks an email to ask about the membership: they’re pretty good at responding.

Thanks for pointing this out. I’d seen their site before but could get no solid details on how they’d actually accomplish the ‘backups’. How’d you come across those details?
How to sign up for Alcor cryo
Could you please explain what motivated you to ask this question? It’d help motivate me to play the game...
Hey els, thanks for posting your thoughts. It’d be nice if you put a summary in the first paragraph seeing as the article is so long.
Very interesting post. I liked how your sequence of examples led from very from things we understand to the thing we’re trying to understand.
Also, I recognized myself in the analogy of the scientists trying to redefine reality in order to fly :)
Thanks for taking the time to write this up and putting numbers to things: it makes it actually possible to evaluate your idea critically.
The thing that jumped out at me was the amount of pressure required for human preservation. What kinds of devices can generate 100KBar of pressure?
Edit: changed GBar to KBar
Where do you live, Snorri? I’m interested in this as well.
Donated $800. Good luck, CFAR!
Thanks for looking into it. FYI, it seems like the time dimension won’t be necessary since people have recovered after their brain activity stops e.g. Profound Hypothermia and Circulatory Arrest
Thanks for the pointer. Sadly, the techniques discussed all require slicing up the brain before imaging.
That’s a good point, shminux. But don’t you think that the entire organ needs to be scanned at high resolution first before storing a compressed copy?
What are the resolution limits of medical imaging?
I tried it for a couple of weeks and found that it’s most useful to me in social situations for communicating in “hazardous situations” e.g. talking to a stranger at a party, or holding an unpleasant conversation while still being empathetic.
I didn’t really try it for general hard-things-to-do since I have different mental tools for those.

Hey Jonah, props on being so honest in writing this article. I can relate to pretty much everything that you wrote.
