Every theory of determinism necessarily implies consciousness is epiphenomenal. If the physical motion of particles is predetermined essentially by forces outside the control of consciousness, then by consciousness has no effect on the universe. For consciousness to act on the universe it must exert itself in a manner separated from the clockwork world of forces precisely defined velocity and position.
